In which I am sidetracked from offering a sophisticated critique

After reading Aaron Bady's assessment of Publisher's Weekly's all-male, all-the-time Top Ten of 2009 list, I clicked over to PW's site...and discovered that they identified Dan Simmons' Drood as one of the best works of fiction from 2009.  I'd splutter, except that I already did that.
