This Week's Acquisitions

  • James Britten, The Catholic's Library of Tales and Poems, Vol. II (Catholic Truth Society, 1888).  A somewhat miscellaneous anthology that includes contemporary authors (Rosa Mulholland, Stella Austin, A. F. North, W. H. Cologan, J. H. Newman...) alongside canonical figures (Chaucer--it would be the Prioress' Tale...) and some people who would have been astonished to find themselves in here (Carlyle?!).  (AbeBooks)

  • Susan Hill, The Mist in the Mirror (Vintage, 2014).  Reprint of Hill's 1992 novella about a man who stumbles across Evil while researching a famous explorer.  (Lift Bridge)
  • Jan Kjaerstad, The Seducer, trans. Barbara J. Haveland (Overlook, 2006).  Translation of Kjaerstad's 1993 novel, first in a trilogy, about Norwegian celebrity Jonas Wergeland in the aftermath of his wife's mysterious death.  (Amazon [secondhand])
  • The Dawn of Day, five vols. (1894-96, 1899, 1915).  SPCK monthly periodical, featuring serialized fiction, church-related news, etc.
