This Week's Acquisitions

  • A Round Table of Representative Irish and English Catholic Novelists (Benziger, 1897).  A short-story anthology featuring contributions by Louisa Emily Dobree, M. E. Francis (Mrs. Francis Blundell), Theo. Gift [pseud. Dorothy Henrietta Boulger], Baronness Pauline von Hugel, Lady Amabel Kerr, R. B. Sheridan Knowles, Frances M. Maitland, Sophie Maude, Clara Mulholland, her sister Rosa Mulholland Gilbert, Mrs. Bartle Teeling, and Katherine [or Katharine] Tynan Hinkson.  (I'm guessing that for most readers, the only recognizable name here will be Tynan.)  Interestingly enough, there's only one man in this group, Sheridan Knowles.  (eBay)
  • Mary Elizabeth Braddon, Dead Love Has Chains, ed. Laurence Talairach-Vielmas (Valancourt, 2014).  Reprint of Braddon's 1907 novel involving seduction, pregnancy out of wedlock, insanity, forbidden love, and the other things one might expect from a sensation novel.  (Amazon)
  • Charles Sainte-Foy [pseud. Eloi Jourdain], Mission and Duties of Young Women, trans. Charles I. White (Kenedy, 1891).  Translation of a French Catholic advice manual; part of the "Catholic Presentation Library."  (eBay)
