This Week's Acquisitions
(Incidentally, posting will be light for the next couple of days, due to circumstances completely under my control--namely, midterms to grade.)
- Charlotte Maria Pepys, The Diary and Houres of the Ladye Adolie: A Faythfulle Childe, 1552 (Addey and Co., 1853). Elaborate fictional diary. You can see images at the Internet Archive; the book's faux-sixteenth century appearance was courtesy of the Chiswick Press.
- Gail Turley Houston, Royalties: The Queen and Victorian Writers (Virginia, 1999). Critical study of how Victorian authors responded to a female monarch.
- James A. Secord, Controversy in Victorian Geology: The Cambrian-Silurian Dispute (Princeton, 1986). Geological warfare in early Victorian science.
