This Week's Acquisitions

  • William Hale Hale, The Approaching Contest with Romanism Considered.  A Charge, Addressed to the Clergy of the Archdeaconry of London, at the Visitation, April 29, 1845 (Rivington, 1845).  An attack on the Maynooth Grant.  Hale's portrait is at the National Portrait Gallery; Project Canterbury hosts a couple of his tracts (scroll down to "October").

  • Gail Jones, Sixty Lights (Vintage, 2004). A Victorian woman's life imagined through narrative "photographs" (there are sixty chapters). Longlisted for the Booker Prize.
