  • Gordon S. Haight, ed., A Century of George Eliot Criticism (Methuen, 1966). Anthology of critical essays from the Victorian period to the present.
  • Montagu Frank Modder, The Jew in the Literature of England: To the End of the 19th Century (Jewish Publication Society of America, 1944).  A well-known general survey.
  • Bart D. Ehrman, Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why (HarperSanFrancisco, 2005).  Textual criticism, popularized.
