This Week's Acquisitions

  • J. W. Cunningham, The Velvet Cushion, 2nd ed. (Cadell and Davies, 1814).  An extremely popular evangelical "object narrative."  (This acquisition was prompted by an e-mail I received a few weeks ago about the book,  which reminded me that I had always wanted my own copy...)
  • Julian Barnes, Arthur and George (Knopf, 2006).  Historical novel about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's work on the real-life case of George Edalji.
  • Margaret Drabble, The Red Queen (Harvest Books, 2005).  An academic receives an 18th-c. Korean princess' memoir, with unexpected results.
