- Kingsley Amis, Lucky Jim (Penguin, 1993). The quintessential campus novel.
- Georgina Harding, The Solitude of Thomas Cave: A Novel (Bloomsbury USA, 2007). In the seventeenth century, a man bets that he can hang out on an arctic island, alone, for several months.
- Emma Darwin, The Mathematics of Love: A Novel (Morrow, 2007). Parallel-plot historical novel, involving letters, research, secret passions, etc.
