Violence
Over at Making Light, a thread on--gulp--The Da Vinci Code takes a temporary detour into books, throwing of same against the wall. While most bibliophiles would agree that such anti-textual activity constitutes a felony offense, it's nevertheless the case that many of us have, at one time or another, yearned to express our displeasure by hurling an offending book into a roaring fire, a circular file, or perhaps the nearest available compost heap. For example, I once seriously contemplated throwing Charles Kingsley's Alton Locke into the path of an onrushing Mack truck. (Kingsley does that to people, I find.) Any other true confessions? Has anyone literally thrown a book across a room, out a window (surely that would endanger innocent passers-by?), or into the nearest incinerator?
