You knew those long nineteenth-century novels would come in handy

Dad the Emeritus Historian of Graeco-Roman Egypt has called my attention to this creative use of War and Peace (scroll down to the third letter). 

It occurs to me that Clarissa, while not a nineteenth-century novel, might also be suitable for such occasions.
