Knock-on revisions
I've been updating/adding references, to meet various readers' requests, and in the process, I keep finding myself wanting to say something like "And as we saw in the first chapter..."
Only one problem: the first chapter (on Scott) doesn't exist yet, because I'm just beginning to draft it. Can't cross-reference something that doesn't yet exist, even if I have a fairly good idea what I'm going to say. Clearly, a sign that I need to speed up the writing process.
Incidentally, the projected existence of this first chapter stands as a reminder that existing scholarship on a topic ! = exhausted scholarship on a topic. There are a couple of other studies that deal with what I'm dubbing "Scott's Reformation," but the very context in which my chapter will appear already changes the angle of approach.
