Progress report, midterm edition

I recently had to give my undergraduates their midterm grades.  So what have I managed to accomplish so far?

Research and writing

  • The last of the four articles I needed to write went off to the editors; I'll need to start working on revisions shortly.
  • Another article of mine was just accepted a couple of days ago by the Journal of British Studies
  • I...think I have a book chapter out? Haven't seen a formal announcement about the collection yet.
  • I sent off the last two book reviews.
  • Now to finish the lecture I'm giving next month.
  • All of this (temporarily) clears the decks, so I'll be back to working on Book 3 1/2 this summer.  (The new article is not Book 3 1/2 related, but the lecture is.)   I also need to start thinking about a conference or two, as I could either finish up my writing projects or develop conference papers, but not both.  One of the upsides of not conferencing this year is that my travel allowance carries over, so I can afford a slightly pricier journey.

Teaching

  • The three classes (composition, British Novel II, 19th-c. short fiction) seem to be moving along.  British Novel II will start Ford Madox Ford's The Good Soldier next week--one of my favorite novels.  Comp has two more papers + drafts, and the other two classes have one more paper apiece + drafts + final exams.
  • I'm directing an advanced project (the MA capstone) this year, so should be hearing from that student as soon as school begins again.
  • I need to develop course descriptions for next semester's advising.

Service

  • I agreed to sit on an unexpected committee (as opposed to the expected variety).
  • The APT committee, of which I'm chair, is revising our standards and expectations document.
  • I'm on an awards committee, which meets anon.
  • I've been reading lots of proposals for the undergraduate curriculum committee.  Speaking of which...
  • ...a colleague and I collaborated on a proposal for a minor, which, as it happens, is one of the above-mentioned proposals.
  • And now for my last few meetings as the department's Senate representative.
